About the role
You’ll work on our Zig-based tools — flags.zig, tip, and new projects as they come up. The work is low-level: argument parsing, memory management, cryptographic primitives, and CLI interfaces. You’ll write code where correctness matters more than speed of delivery.
What you’ll do
- Extend and maintain flags.zig — comptime argument parsing, subcommands, error reporting
- Build new CLI tools in Zig for internal and public use
- Work on tip’s cryptographic layer — key derivation, memory zeroing, secure defaults
- Write tests that verify behavior at the byte level
- Review PRs from contributors with an eye for correctness and clarity
What we’re looking for
- Experience with systems programming — Zig, Rust, C, or C++
- Comfort with manual memory management and understanding of when it matters
- Familiarity with comptime/metaprogramming concepts
- Strong opinions about error handling, loosely held
- You’ve read code more than you’ve written it, and you think that’s a feature
Nice to have
- Contributions to open-source systems projects
- Experience with applied cryptography (not just theory)
- Familiarity with Zig’s standard library and build system
